Strategy + Operations = Mind & Maker

Kevin Perez-Evans

Brand Strategist | Creative Director | Operator

Hi, I’m Kevin.

At 21, I started an online rare books company selling to professors, directors, actors, and bibliophiles.

Six years later, having a thirst for online business, I reached out to the folks at The Five Minute Journal to help them with marekting, eventually becoming Head of Growth. For 5 years I led strategy, eCommerce, and marketing helping them grow into a profitable 7-figure business leading to partnerships with Tim Ferriss, Starbucks, Humana, Goop, and Rhone.

I currently work as the Head of Marketing for Marc Nolan Shoes leading product development, marketing, and strategy.

Having run all aspects of business from brand strategy to design, logistics, paid ads and everything in between, my specialty is connecting the dots of big picture thinking with executional chops to make it happen.

Philosophy

1. Discovery & Strategy first

Just like a doctor initially examining you before recommending solutions, I believe in first understanding and uncovering what your real problem is before tactical fixes. Measure twice, cut once. You’ll save time and money in the long run.

2. Growing well is better than growing big

Giant numbers for how big or fast a company grew may invoke envy. But what about the untold story – the compromises made in order to chase infinite growth? The watered down mission, sacrificing product quality, questionable ethics, dreaming when your next vacation will be? I believe in right-sizing your company to retain the integrity of service to your customers, mission, employees, and your mental sanity.

3. Profitability matters

The secure path to success is having sustainable, profitable margins sooner rather than “let’s hope we continually raise money / unprofitably advertise and figure it out later.” Know your numbers, know your payback period, build a strong financial foundation.

4. Product, distribution, customer service > branding

Many of the DTC brands are copy and paste missions, logos, backstories, and clever messaging. Improving your product offering, tightening your supply chain to be less prone to interruptions, actually doing customer service – these are the core comptencies. Pretty asthetics and copywriting can only get you so far.
